Shampooing Every Day - Totally Not Needed!

Okay everyone has to shampoo their hair right? I mean at least they should because it's just good ole personal hygiene in order to keep the hair and scalp clean. But there are a lot of people taking this to the extreme.

Most of them are hair loss sufferers and they don't even suffer from OCD (excuse the pun). This is totally not needed and is actually dangerous to the growth of your hair.

I'm going to reveal to you why in just a second, but first why do so many people believe shampooing the hair all the time will make it grow back faster?

One thing I've observed is that a lot of folks do this because they've heard how clogged follicles can contribute to a loss of their hair. Others feel like just having a clean scalp is the key to more hair.

Well . . . . clogged follicles can contribute to hair loss when left untreated over time. But your hair needs certain natural oils in it in order to grow properly. You just can't do this every single day.

One great way to shampoo your hair effectively so as to make sure it grows back to its maximum potential is to do this every other day. Perhaps three days out of the week.

If you tend to have oily scalp and feel that more is needed, here's a quick concoction that's natural to help you rid of the oils.

Take a quart of water and mix it with the juice from four lemons. The acidic level of this mixture when applied as a rinse to the scalp will work to safely eliminate any buildup.

  1. Never gave this any real thought until now. I used to really shampoo my hair a lot but I have noticed that when you do this it tends to take the hair out some. Great article!

I have all of your e books Chris and I'm sure in one of them you say that shampooing every day isn't a problem because of excess oil buildup and the massaging action of shampooing draws blood to the scalp, hence stimulating more growth. What about if you use product in your hair (ie. gel, hairspray)? Is it safe to let that sit for more than a day? What is your official stance on styling products? I try to go half of the week without using them but can't avoid them altogether with my hairstyle being a bit longer. Thanks.

  10. I shampoo my hair only once a week. I use FRUITIS SHAMPOO. I use a mixture of almond oil, teatree and rosemary essential oils and I message it on my scalp after I shampoo my hair. My hair is growing like the rain forest ! The essential oils are very potent so only use 4 drops to 4 ounces of almond, jojoba, grape seed oils.

  11. I have been using an herbal shampoo that i make myself that consist of rosemary oil, casile shampoo diluted - i have noticed that with using the commercial shampoos my hair was getting thinner and thinner in the top of my head - now after using the herbal shampoos that i make my self - hair is much thicker and much shinner and much healthier looking - i really believe that the commmercial shampoos are not good for our hair at al also i grow my rosemary- dry them out for 2 weeks and mix it with organic olive oil since i am using it on my scalp - for prewash treatments and it also gives it a shine

  12. yeah man you are being contradictory on this one, make it clear: shampooing everyday or not? for me shampooing everyday with a soft shampoo has made no wrong to my hair, I also shampoo twice a week with a Ketoconazole 2% shampoo.

  13. Okay, so there is the question "shampooing often" vs. "shampooing occasionally". My hair tends to get oily after a day... so what's a good way of removing at least the appearance of oily hair for the day that you don't shampoo?
    Thanks!

  15. A Hair replacement clinic in Harley Street recommended using Baby shampoo while using propecia. i did and my head got really shiny but i think and my hair felt really dry so i stopped using it. But each of us as individuals have to discover this through trial and error so it's worth trying to get a small free sample bottle from the companies just to try the product out first. Ask and ye MAY receive.

  16. I have also read where Chris said to shampoo often. I think he also said but not too often. A hair dresser once told me that if you wait too long to wash your hair, you will lose more hair when you get to shampoo. But if you wash more often in between, you won't lose as much hair. Since then, I have realised that that is true. If I wash only once a week, more hairs will fall out and if I wash twice a week, I lose less hair, sometimes only a few strands that surprises me. My hair gets oily fast too so I also want to know how to prevent that. Maybe using a shampoo for oily hair? Btw, Aubrey Organics has herbal shampoos and all their shampoos are SLS free and organic. I read somewhere that their Jay Desert Herb shampoo is good for hair loss. I'm using one of theirs but might switch to this one to try for my thin hair.
